And so with
our summer clothes at the bottom of our cases and wearing clothes too warm for
Miami we headed off to the airport. It
is a large airport but well organised. So in no time at all we were sitting
waiting for Julee and Lindsay to fly in from Georgia for our flight to New
York. It was good to catch up on what
they had been doing, although unfortunately they had also been sick with the
same terrible cough.
The flight
to New York takes just under 3 hours. As
we flew in Lindsay had a wonderful view, from his window seat, of the lights of
New York. Most people seemed to have
taken on board luggage and so in we were quickly outside waiting for our
transfer driver to take us to our apartment.
We were glad we had rugged up in readiness as it was very cold waiting
for our driver to find us.
We are
staying in the Greenwich Village area.
It is full of apartment buildings mainly housing people attending the
University, so it is quiet but easy walking distance to many of the iconic
landmarks of New York.
The owner of
the apartment met us and showed us the apartment and then whisked us off to his
restaurant for a free meal!!??!! As we
walked there he told us about the area and himself. It was a very busy café/restaurant. He insisted we choose whatever we wanted. Soon we were enjoying two very yummy
pizzas. From there we went to a market
our host had told us about. Sunday night
8pm and this market was busy with people doing their shopping. It is all organic with a large election of
lovely fresh veggies, fruit, meat, and all sort of grocery items we
needed. We stocked up for breakfast.
It was only
4 or 5 degrees but it was lovely fresh air and quite refreshing wandering back
to our apartment. There is no control on
the heater in the apartment, it is just very warm all of the time. All you can do to regulate the temperature to
leave a window open.
